Pit Bike Flips

Fall of 2004 I built a sketchy, cheap, and simple foam pit in a buddy's backyard and over the course of a weekend, I learned minibike flips on my KLX110. I soon got to the point where I could flip the doubles at the local BMX trails (middle) and was asked to build and flip a wooden ramp setup on the new IFMA Ramp-to-Ramp tour in 2005 (bottom).

Our foam pit was sketchy at best; I built it quickly and cheap using scrap foam from a seat-manufacturer for GM that is based in Kansas City. They had dumpsters filled with cutoffs and misc. scraps, and allowed me to fill up my trailer with it for free. We had several weekends that fall where all day was spent bbqing, partying, drinking, and backflipping into the foam pit.

Flipping 110s was a ton of fun in 2004/2005, but I struggled because that season I was also working on flips with my 250cc motocross bike. The 110 weighed about 70lbs less but had only 20% of the horsepower. That said, going back and forth between the two was tough for me and I struggled to get really consistant at either.
